So I hesitated posting this picture- I figured it would raise a lot of questions as there is clearly more than one gestational sac, but only one baby....but since this is a blog about our lives, I guess I'll tell you the story.

Two weeks ago I had an ultrasound (because I wanted it) that showed three babies. We were having triplets! Holy crap! Everything seemed to be fine with them according to the radiologist, but I just had a feeling, you know? We kept in KIND OF quiet because I knew that 50% of triplet pregnancies either ended in singletons or twins. We were scared. Dr Morris dismissed me because she only does low risk pregnancies and made me an appointment with a Perinatologist. The last 2 weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions. Terror was a big one, but as the time passed we came to accept that maybe we really WERE having triplets and how we would handle it. We had lots of discussions about money, a high risk pregnancy, a C- section, NICU babies, my job and had a pseudo plan, but we were anxious for the scan yesterday.
Fast forward- yesterday I saw the perinatologist, well, the Ultrasound tech. Immediately I could see one baby and two empty sacs. B, of course, didn't know what this meant, but I knew. Again, the rollercoaster started up. Fast. Two of our babies had died!? Disappeared even. The doctor said the sacs were already showing signs of shrinking so it shouldn't be an issue. I knew it was totally possible, nearly expected it, but when I saw it it was still a bit shocking. The said I could stay for my appointment or I was free to go back to my doctor with my low risk pregnancy. With my love for Dr. M of course I chose to go back. I did cry for them. I was going to get my big family all at once! How awesome. I knew we'd have tons of support and help, at least at the beginning, and it would be ok. Hard, but ok.
This morning I'm feeling better. I've been thinking about all the things I'll be able to do now that I'm having a normal pregnancy. Work (blah), enjoy the next 9 months with the big kids, continue to exercise, etc. I've also been thinking about things I'll be able to do because I'm having ONE baby- more snuggles, breastfeed successfully, more sleep, enjoy the summer a bit more with the big kids, GO PLACES, etc. There IS a bit of relief that goes along with this. I can't believe that people with triplets actually CHOOSE to reduce them though- that is something I could NEVER do.
Right now I think it's safe to say I am terrified. What if something happens to THIS baby?? I want it so very much. Right now it looks happy, healthy, wiggly, and perfect. Here's to a healthy baby.
