Nap Mat Project Success!

In preschool the kids have to have a nap mat of some sort. They can bring whatever- a sheet, towel, blanket, sleeping bag, you name it. Last year I got them these nap mats from target. Turns out Mira's was about a foot too long for her. Whatever. I didn't worry about it, but Griffin actually SLEEPS during rest time at school. My project was to remedy this situation....I started with this:

 Those plastic kinder mats you can buy at wal-mart. We got it for free from Delaney a few years ago. It needed a soft pillowcase. I took G to JoAnn's today to pick out fabric. Let me assure you I was ASTOUNDED at the price. I think it was worth it, but we won't discuss how much this thing cost me. He picked out the batman and I picked out the black dot minky. I wanted to be able to pull it off and wash it. I had originally bought some velcro to use as closure, but I forgot I had these nifty snaps I could put on!!! Awesome!!!

 Then I made his mat a blanket. So soft. He loves it. BUT I needed to be sure I wasn't THAT mom whose kid has an outrageous nap mat that has a million pieces to it. I wanted to be able to attach it, but I didn't really want to sew it all together, one because it would be complicated and a lot of thickness for the machine to sew through, and also because a separate blanket is useable after preschool is over. A napmat all sewn together? Notsomuch.

 When he's done he can just roll it up! The pillow I made separate because I didn't have enough fabric to make the case attached. i had this nifty plan to get it all sewed on, but I failed. Hahah. I consider today a success. I love it, he loves it, and we can use it for Sully later on. Easily washable, and  SUPER soft (regardless of price, right??)

I am FAR from a seamstress and this only took about 3 hours.  It's mostly just straight lines and turning and topstitching. I recommend not being an idiot to start and putting your heavy duty sewing machine needle in the right way so you can save about a half an hour and a lot of strife. HA!

Nearly a month in review!

Sully LOVES raisins. I think it's pretty cute. 

 I took Addison with us to a library concert event one day. It was sortof painful because my children just complained the whole time which was annoying, but afterward they said they had fun.

 Sully finally got his hair cut a couple of weeks ago. The mullet was making B mad. He did fair.

 A couple weeks ago Brooks' friend Tim came in town with his daughter. The kids had a great weekend. Looks like Griffin even rode the camel at the zoo!

 Back to school/meet the teacher night. Mira is pumped about school!

 Yesterday was Mira's last day of summer. I took her to worlds of fun and cici's pizza just the two of us because Griffin didn't want to come. Turns out we were glad cause we had a great time!!

 She LOVES this ride. We rode it twice.

 Talked me into a $13 face painting we had to wash off at night. haha. It was cute though.

 Today is the first day of Kindergarten. No tears here for either of us. She's ready, she needs to go. I think summer school really got us ready too.
